Hey I'm after booking my ticket to Bangkok for the 31st of October. I'm going by myself as my friend backed out (am I allowed rant about that on here? anyway as I am having a mid life crisis, I'm going to travel and potter around Asia -Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Laos and to spice things up Myanmar. I'm then going to Taiwan to teach all going well. Anyway I'm 33 which is apparantly a very unlucky age if you are a female in Japan. Phew lucky I'm a male. Anyway if anyone is interested in meeting up for a drink or a re inactment of Angelina Julie in Angkor wat let me know

Hey Sean
I'm arriving in Bangkok 1st November for 10 days
I haven't booked accommodation just yet
Any idea where you might be staying?

Heya Morgan, I'm staying in the bangrak area. I'm there for three days then Phuket and then phi phi islands - booked most of my accomodation already but my friend said that its really easy to get accomodation even if you just show up.

I've had a look at the reviews in Bangrak and the hostels sound like good places to stay. I have a few in mind. Have you booked your transport to phuket. I'm thinking of going there for a few days.

In Bangkok there are smaller private hotels and guest houses that are around the same price as hostels. These are rooms with private bathrooms so you don't have to share urinals and showers with strangers.

A hotel - guest house along the Skytrain route can be helpful. That way you can take advantage of cheap rail service from Suvarnabhumi Airport. (Rail Link not available from Don Muang Airport.) Siam area shopping ; Nana - Asoke area nightlife, restaurants, etc.

Popular sections of Bangkok.

Bangkok is a big city, about the size of London, reasonably priced meter taxis (providing you use the meter and not pay a flat rate) and good city rail service which even includes a subway. But city rail service does not go everywhere so for some tourist things you will have to use a taxi or bus.

By the way, Bangkok is cheaper than Phuket. Local transportation Phuket area not so cheap compared to Bangkok.

Have a nice time in Bangkok.
