Hi, great that you are keen to travel and live in Australia. Australia is a pretty friendly place for travellers. There are lots of pubs, cafes etc around that will happily accept travellers. i don't live in Perth but I think if you got a hostel in the city you will easily be able to access public transport and cafes etc. Sydney is a great place for the type of thing you are looking for. If you situated yourself on the east coast it's easy to travel from Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane by plane.

Also Byron bay in northern NSW is also a great place for travellers.
