Hello,
I'll be flying into Bangkok in July/August and plan to head north to Khon Kaen. I would like to have a couple of days on the coast to acclimatise, can anyone suggest anywhere decent that isn't too far out the way? I would like chilled and cheap and I don't want to add too much time onto my journey north by heading too far down the coast.
I am aware it is rainy season, but I'm not worried about that!
Thanks in advance.
Laila
When you say "on the coast" do you mean fly from Bangkok to a beach area? Or take what is available near Bangkok. Pattaya - Jomtien is about 2 hours by bus from Bangkok. Pattaya Beach is crappy and tourists from N. America and Europe usually just use pools. Bus from Bangkok Ekamai bus terminal around 124 baht for 2 hour ride. Bus 389 and Bell Travel go to Pattaya/Jomtien from Suvarnabhumi Airport during day - early evening hours. Pattaya is cheaper than Phuket and other beach areas. Cheap hotels, cheap local transportation, good restaurants - crappy beach - lots of nightlife along with modern malls, street vendors and travel agencies for tours.
Bangkok is cheaper than many beach areas. Good city rail and bus service plus cheap meter taxis. (Cheap when you only use the meter and do not pay a flat rate.) Lots to do in Bangkok and hotels can be found in all price ranges. Some hotels have pools on roof.
Other beach areas depend on how far you want to go from Bangkok.
Good luck.
