Hello from Vancouver Island,
Here are some day trip things,
well once you are in Vancouver you can take the BC Ferries ride across to Vancouver Island. If you go as a walk on passenger the trip is about $15. If you take the Tsawwasen to Swartz Bay the ferry goes between the Gulf Islands and it's very scenic. Whales are seen sometimes. There are buses to Victoria or if you stayed on the boat they used to let you return for free ( I don't know if they still allow that )
Or you can go to the Gulf Islands by ferry and rent bike or camp.
Also there is in Vancouver a nice gondola ride up Grouse Mountain. Some people take the gondola up then hike down. There are restaurants bars on top and sunset is very nice.
You can reach Steveston by bus and there is a Fisherman's Wharf to check out.
There is an elevated commuter train called Skytrain, it's only $3. dollars and you get a nice long ride thru the different neighbourhoods. And you can get on/off too to shop.
In Vancouver, the beach at English Bay is nice and there is a seawall walk that go for miles. You can rent bikes or scooters but the seawall is walk or bike only.
You can take a bus up to Whistler mountain where the 2010 Olympics were held. It's about a 2 hour trip along the coast and mountains. Lots to do in Whistler.

Thank you very much for all those informations and good ideas. I'm gonna take time to check all that.
Actually i'm interested in discovering the most possible, i mean nice spots, inspiring, colourful, peaceful or just creatives. Eventually, i would prefer wilder places to crowded and touristic ones but i really want to enjoy my trip by meeting people from the place or a potential trip companion. I really like walking by new places to take pictures, and then take a big break to breath and write a bit, that's why i actively look for best spots for sunrise and sunset
I live in Vancouver, so I think I can help you out for the west coast part....
The one thing I would not miss as a Canadian travelling across the country is the West Coast Trail. Now, I know packing a big ruck and ll the gear is tedious and so on... but it is absolutely unmissable. The most beautiful part of Canada to me and many others. I have done it twice and I think I 'm addicted. I can't wait to go back and do it again. It takes a lot of planning to do it though, but so worth it.
