hey guys heading up to Australia for 8 weeks just wandering what everyone recommends i do while I'm their i have a few ideas already but just wanted to get peoples opinions so i can make the most of my time their! thank you
My favorite parts of Australia are mostly in the south: The shipwreck coast (part of the great ocean road), the Grampians (lots of wildlife and good hiking), Cradle Mountain in Tasmania (great hiking), and all of Sydney (particularly Glebe, and crisscrossing the harbour by ferry). Also Mossman Gorge near Cairns, and platypus spotting at Broken River in Eungella National Park (near Mackay).
That's a rather broad question If you have any particular kinds of things you are interested in, then that would help.
I would say though - be sure to get out of the cities and see some of the countryside and smaller towns.
Is there any part of the country that you have narrowed down your trip to?
Hi sorry wouldn't let me sign in for a while! I'm heading to Sydney then Gold Coast Brisbane and cairns xx
I'll also be in Brisbane soon also but will head back for a week or so for family thing end of may and head back to oz so I'm also interested in what to do in Brisbane
Its the usual places from Sydney to Cairns that people mention on forums all the time, Depends on what you looking for. There some quite cool small towns you can stop at on the way up from Sydney, Like I personally enjoyed Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour....if you dont mind small places that is. The Greyhound goes through them so easily accessible. Ovbiously the go to places from there are Brisbane (Not much happening here for me, wouldnt waste to long here), Surfers Paradise ( Not as bad as people made out, but then again I was mostly there in the off season), Noosa, (nice place but expensive) did eco camping here with canoeing which was cool. Then you Have to do Fraser Island which you get to from Hervey bay, Hervey bay has nothing there really. Definetley go to 1770, again a small town, but you can do cheap surfing here and the famous scooteroo which is great fun. Airlie beach next, love this place, get on a boat and live at sea for a few days and see the amazing Whitehaven beach. From here not much to see till Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef, there is Magnetic Island a ferry across from Townsville which is a nice place..TOwnsville itself is a s*** hole mind.
Anyway sorry for the rambling, hope it helps a bit, Anyway you will prob find little gems of your own that youd love more, these are just my opinions...
Have fun
Cairns! - A day trip to Fitzroy Island is well worth doing - great snorkelling off the beach and, although not quite the Great Barrier Reef, almost as good and much cheaper.
Some spots I liked between Cairns and Airlie Beach. It is very sparse though - be prepared for lots and lots of sugarcane fields
Mission Beach I found quite a nice little town. We had a cassowary cross the road in front of us on the way out of town which was a bit of a highlight for us.
Up on the Atherton Tablelands there's some interesting scenery as well. One particular highlight for us was a little rainforest lodge not too far from Atherton at Lake Eacham. Excellent wildlife spotting including red legged paddy melons (type of wallabies), victorian rifle birds, sugar glider possums and bandicoots.
The town of Kuranda and its waterfall is quite beautiful. If you go after the last train has left most of the shops in town will be shut though. Catching the train is possible from Cairns, though very expensive. We were quite happy just driving there and walking down to the waterfall. Free and very beautiful indeed.
Travel past Cairns a bit and go up to Port Douglas and Mossman Gorge. Lots of beautiful spots.
Hello...
Australia is the beautiful destination for holidays. You can do various good things to do in while in australia. You can learn to surf about the education or universities. Learn knowledge of aboriginal culture, and you can go for the mardi gras carnival in sydney etc. So, you can go for the australian, and enjoy.
Thanks people an ye sparse places an small towns is me but main reason is for the wildlife in oz an the further I head north the more I shall see surely but again thanks a lot
