Hi Everyone,
Get an Australian visa before leaving home. If you plan on spending more than a month there, either get a work visa or be prepared to show that you have sufficient money.
Get a Vietnam visa online, specifically pointing out that you do not want a month visa (costs $30 more).
You get 30 days visa waiver on arrival in Bangkok. You can get another 30 days by leaving Thailand and coming back again.
Laos and Cambodia ($20) you can get a visa at the border (take along some passport sized photos) and Malaysia you will not need one.
Be aware that some visas are time sensitive, so might run out before you use them.
US dollars are good in Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia as well as the local currencies, which you will often get in change.
The other countries are cheapish but Australia is expensive. Best time to go is early December.
For Australia, you'll want an (free; allows you to stay for up to 90 days as a tourist), or a (GBP 265; allows you to stay for up to a year, working, with a second year becoming possible if you do fruit picking e.a. for three months - otherwise "once in a lifetime"). Don't apply anywhere else except at the official website of the Australian department of immigration.
