Hey Guys,
Hey Camaro!
My friends and I are heading out for the Songkran from Manila on the 10th as well. Which specific part of the country are you going to? We've yet to decide where to go exactly but perhaps we can meet up.
I was in Bangkok during Songkran a few years ago and it's great fun. Pretty much everywhere you go in the city you'll get squirted with water!
I have have been through a few Songkran celebrations in Pattaya over the years. Be careful of electronic gizmos you are carrying. Cellphones, computers and expensive cameras - won't matter what you are carrying. Also good shoes get soaked along with your wallet too. So wrap things in plastic when you are out and about. Water can come at you from trucks passing by and even from windows overhead too. Not all of the water is clean. (So keep your mouth shut!)
I keep a low profile during Songkran and venture out early morning. No water tossing in hotels, stores, malls and restaurants. Many accidents during this holiday. Lots of drunks on the road. Some motorbike riders have water thrown at them even while driving. Water and white powder on taxi windshields make it hard for drivers to see properly.
Have fun.
Thanks for the tips! Very helpful. We'll be in Chiang Mai for Songkran. Any other advice you can share or places we can go to / things we can do while we're there?
Do a Google check for "Songkran Chiang Mai" and look over some of the things you will encounter.
Sample:
Remember to put your wallet and cell phone in a couple plastic bags or they will be soaked!
Hey Wanderlust,
I am thinking I will go to Chiang Mai as well. There is a big couchsurfing meet up event for Songkran. It would be great to meet up.
Sounds good Camaro. Let me know if you've decided to go to Chiang Mai so that we can set a date, time, and venue where we can meet. We'll be arriving on the 11th. Prior to Bangkok, where will you be coming from?
