Central London Maps

Hi folks. Just wondered if anyone knew of any decent central London maps available online right now?

Hi Jane!!

hope it helps...

Hi jane,

What sort of map are you looking for/what do you need it for? (i.e. transport, attractions, hotels, basic street map, for walking, just general area names/borough's) There's a number around, but most are tailored towards one specific thing, and it depends what you need it for.

Thanks guys - looking for a map of central london with street names etc. Detailed if poss. One where I could zoom in and look around would be ideal.

Many thanks.

I guess you want it before getting to London. Otherwise, they sell them at the airport. Last february, I bought one at the money exchange booth at London Gatwick.

No well I'm in London now and didn't want to buy a map - finances are tight etc but I have net access.

Hi Jane,

If funds are tight, have you tried using any 'shopping' or 'underground' free maps - you know, the ones where they advertise their stores on the map? I have found that this has usually sufficed in most places I visited. Usually they can be found at hotels in the foyer or tourist information centres or somewhere similar. I haven't actually done this in London though, so don't know how many of those there are. The only time I bought a map was in Madrid and it was actually a little too detailed for our purposes!

There are some maps of london at http://www.londontown.com/maps/ as well, although I didn't see a zooming in function.

Peter

I agree with Peter - There are any number of free maps you can pick up in London from hotels/tourist info places. Underground/bus stations/ and particularly Travel information outlets tend to be agood bet. TfL produce any number of maps of London which although aimed at people wanting travel information are perfectly good enough for use as a normal tourist, and you can pick them up for free. Some are even specifically aimed at tourists/directing people to museums/major attractions.

If you want to do it on line:

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/
http://www.multimap.com/

are OK, and there are also a large selection (again Transport aimed, but still perfectly usable) at:

http://www.transportforlondon.gov.uk/tfl/maps-home.shtml

Enjoy London

This thread's twelve years old; their need for an on-line London map has likely passed and probably everyone has heard of Google Maps in this day and age.
