Hello Hello,
Haha, first time I see a request for fashion advice on this page! Whell anyway, about them churches, this very much depends on which church you go....but in most of them, not to much skin is allowed, so just dress properly. Im not sure wether it is obliged to wear a skirt (if it is and it is a big church they have skirts for rent). Females wearing trousers in church in southern Europe has been forbidden in the past....but I don't think it still is nowadays....Im actually quite sure it is not. About wearing shorts...just don't!...It looks ridiculous ánd it makes you look like a tourist indeed, haha. For the rest..wear what you dig! This whole story about bright colours really doesn't sound familiar. Anyway, have fun in Barcelona, it's one of the greatest cities on this planet.

Hi Leah,
in a church you can wear trousers or skirts which finish on your knees. If you wear shorts in a city you like like a tourist (but I sometimes wear them although I´m not a tourist in Spain!). Anyway, the most important thing about all this is :bring summer clothes, as it is quite hot in Barcelona during that season!

Thanks for the advice guys!!
I'm not totally self conscience and usually I don't care too much what I wear but I don't want to look like a tourist ALL the time ALL summer long... If I was backpacking then I wouldn't care at all I would just pack light. But now I know if the suitcase is getting full I'll opt for the extra skirt over the shorts or pants
Leah
this is confusing to me as i pack up for spain, too.
i'm told seville is UBER hot in july, but shorts peg you as a tourist. OK, so what should i wear that would keep me cool? seriously, i need an example of an appropriate outfit. if i wear short skirts won't i be drawing unwanted attention???
help!
yeah Seville is Wicked HOT! in July - i suffered last year. Wear shorts - everyone does. Better to be comfortable, no?
I am going to spain for the fall and have no idea what to pack!!! I hear they dress up a lot more than we do (I am a t-shirt flip flops and jeans type of girl) that they dress very "european" but I don't know what that is or if I have anything like that. I don't mind standing out everynow and then but I wanted to go and experience the culture (my favorite part of studying abroad) and I feel like by doing that you can't stick out like a soar thumb. So waht is normal to wear around town/ to class or out at night.
Thanks in advance!!!!

As for weather in Spain in the fall it depends how late in the fall and where in Spain you are going. Dressing European versus American: in general it means the latest fashions (particularly in Italy), but if you are not a fashionista it means DISCRETE colors, cuts, patterns. Like makeup: in America you put a lot of it and to Europeans you look like a clown. Europeans put a lot of it, too, but they spend more time doing it and the effect is like they are not having any makeup at all. So just dress as if you weren't trying to attract attention, but like that's exactly your goal. Got it? If not, bring some clothing budget with you and you'll get it very soon and complete your wardrobe to look European.
i'm going to an evening wedding in spain and can't decide what to wear. in the usa it's now acceptable (and pretty common actually) for women to wear black dresses to weddings. is that the case in europe? would it be ok to wear a black cocktail dress?
any help would be appreciated! thanks!
I am afraid it would be too offensive. Unless it is the only thing you have than add a jacket in a different color.
