Hey All,
Here in the Uk it's 18. Some places enforce it,some don't.
Nice, i dont suppose u would happen to know anypubs in the UK that would be interested in hiring 2 Aussie lads later this year would you?? we will both be 18, almost 19, and both have experience.
You should have no problems getting bar work in the uk. Should just be a matter of asking about once you get here. As there is such a large number who come here on working holidays maybe there are agencies (particularly in London) that might be able to sort you out. Why don't you start a thread. From reading this forum sounds like plenty on here have done what you're about to do.
Chalkers you should look in the UK version of TNT, the magazine for Aussies. They have a jobs section, I've just looked. tntmagazine.com
I've known a few people who haven worked in pubs in the UK and some haven't stayed there long or had much experience-so you should find it real easy!
Particularly temp bar work!-which is obviously what you will be after.
Just to put that right : it is true that drinking in general is allowed at the age of 16 in Germany, but that's only for the beverages with relatively few alcohol (beer basically, "alcopops",...). All the rest is only allowed when you are 18. Good luck for your job search! :-)
In the Netherlands the legal "drinking age" is, like Germany, 16 years for beer etc. and 18 years for stuff like whisky. So there should not be any problem. By the way, they normally never check your age here..
Cheers,
Eric
In the UK, it's 18 - but the law is so weak. It's not unusual to see 12 year olds drinking in parks and other public places on a regular basis.
all 18 in Turkey.
