My family will visit China in September with a 4-year-old kid. I once read a journal which said that Yangshao is a family friendly city with most local speaking some English. Besides Yangshuo, are there any other family friendly cities in China? I really want to visit China and long for this journey for a long time.
I dont know about Yangshuo, we did not visit the place. However, in Beijing and in Xi'an we did stay in hostels rather than hotels and that makes it more fun for young children and also the staff in hostels speaks English. Our duaghter had great fun making dumplings with the hostel staff and learning a new Chinese game to play. Some local parks can be fun for kids with go-carts and roller scates for rent. Please, if you have any specific questions, just ask, maybe I can answer them.
Typically the Chinese love small children, so I find that where ever we stay, the children are entertained by and entertain staff members. I think the things to consider are how much walking you need to do, and whether your 4 year old can keep up on tourist visits. For example, we are planning on visiting the Leshan Buddha in the next couple of weeks near Chengdu, and we are not planning on climbing to the top instead we will take a motor boat out into the river in front and look back.
