A few days in Bangkok with 2 young kids; where to stay?

Sam I Am has indicated that this thread is about Bangkok

I'd recommend somewhere close to the river, so you can just hop on a boat to the Royal Palace and that whole area; the boat ride itself should be fun and exciting for the kids, plus the cooling breeze would be very welcome that time of the year. I don't know if there's any suitable hotels in that area, but just south of Chinatown / Hualamphong train station always looked like a decent area to me. (You can also take the subway from there to Lumphini Park (2 or 3 stops), which is also a nice place to get away from the bustle of the rest of the city.)

I do remember the boat ride from the last time I was there, and that's definitely on the list of things to do! There don't appear to be too many hotels around that area. Lots and lots around Sukhumvit though. I can't remember even being in Sukhumvit last time I was in BKK, but it looks like the centre of the action... then again, that's probably exactly where we don't want to be with two kids either!!

A convenient area on the river with a park and all the things that i think would be
handy and ease of getting around would be BANGLAMPHU near the
PHRA ATHIT PIER. There is convenience stores near by and not to busy.

After living in Bangkok for a year I can tell you that this time of the year is the worst, up till November when it starts cooling off and drying out. That being said, the hustle and bustle of the center of Banglok is probably the last place you want to stay, especially with 2 kids. Unless, of course, you have unlimited funds.

My recommendation is that you find an apartment just outside of town with access to the trains, which are cheap and fast and can take you anywhere in the city (including the river and all the attractions) in minutes. They are cheaper, more comfortable, private and quiet.

Let me know if you want a recommendation and I'll send it to you.

I definitely wouldn't say unlimited funds, especially as it's at the end of the trip Sadly we can't help the weather, but I definitely see your point. What parts do you consider the 'centre'? Any tips would be gratefully accepted!

I'll certainly have a look at that area dagobert0583! Just checked now and there does seem to be a collection of hotels around there.

I live in the Lat Phrao area, which is two stops from the famous Chatuchak market. It's quiet, has all the conveniences of a hotel and I have a 2 bedroom apartment with air, fully stocked kitchen, balcony, and a lovely swimming pool on the roof that is hardly visited. They charge 30K bht per month, but you can rent the apartments by the week too. This is true of any of the areas in the outskirts of the Sukhumvit area (the official center) where everything is a LOT more expensive, traffic is horrible and louder.

How long are you staying?

Sounds lovely Renae We're only staying 2 nights though, which often with apartments isn't ideal...
