Anyone out there know much about North America and some top tips on where to go and stay

You should probably read the guide on this site

Then, when you have specific questions, someone may be able to help you.

I agree with Teflon, your ? is too vague, and North America too vast to even know where to start.

If you are going to north america, then this forum can help you alot. I will suggest you to go MIami , Florida. Its a place for those who want to just live and to live with their dreams. That is a lovely place.

I find that for young people, the "happening spots" are Las Vegas (Nevada), Miami (Florida), Austin (Texas), the coastal parts of California (Newport Beach and Huntington Beach and Venice Beach near LA, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, and the northern part of San Francisco near Fisherman's Wharf), and Seattle (Washington).

For those who have families, visiting the national parks are a better choice--with the ones in Arizona, Wyoming, Utah, Washington state, eastern California, Colorado and Tennessee being the best ones of all. (Alaska is also great, but very difficult to reach). Various amusement parks are popular with families as well.

Senior tend to enjoy cruises--either off the coast of Florida, down to the Virgin Islands, or up to Alaska via the inland passage.

Naturally, I'm generalizing here--and many of these trips would work regardless of age--but this is what people tend to do (and apparently enjoy) the most.

One other thing I should mention is that Americans tend to vacation either in Hawaii, in the national parks, in New York, in Orlando (visiting the Disney and other amusement parks there), or to Mexico (Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas) or the Caribbean (Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, St. Martin, Bahamas).
