Dear fellow travelers,
Could you express your opinion regarding next issue?
I had rented and prepaid car for 14 days by rentalcars.com.
Having failed to pick up the car at exact day I asked them to change the date and they turned down my request. Moreover, they rejected to refund any sum from prepaid total sum.
What do you think about all these?
Thanks in advance
What does the contract say that you agreed to?
Cheers,
Terry
Thanks - as far as I understand I lost my case - even it was not my fault (air company strike or something like that). How do we travelers could be ensured for such cases?
"... as far as I understand I lost my case..."
How do you know if you've lost if you don't know what your contract says?
Cheers
Terry
They had refused to change something in contract at exact day of pick up.
You're missing the point.
The Terms & Conditions of your Rental Contract will state their policy regarding changes to the rental days. Maybe you have no leeway, maybe you do, who knows.
You have to read your contract to understand whether you have a right to a refund, or not.
Cheers,
Terry
I just read the Terms & Conditions at http://www.rentalcars.com/ where you said you arranged for the car rental. That website is actually owned by Priceline. Here's what they say under their Rental Car Service Restrictions:
"... Pricing may change if you pick-up, or drop-off the car at a different date or time than you requested in your reservation or for other reasons at the discretion of the rental car company..."
That means http://www.rentalcars.com/ has nothing to do with refunding your money when you change dates, it's up to the car rental company. Since you make no mention of which company you rented from it's impossible for anyone to offer any advice.
Cheers,
Terry
Hi.
If you failed to pick it up on the day (a no show) and did not give them advance warning then I think they are well within their rights to refuse a refund.
"... If you failed to pick it up on the day (a no show) and did not give them advance warning then I think they are well within their rights to refuse a refund..."
Correct... unless you called in advance and made other arrangements. Again, it depends entirely on the policy of the specific car rental agency.
Cheers,
Terry
Thanks a lot.
You really helped me to understand where I stay.
Europcar turned down my request because the money were hold by rentalcars.com. Rentalcars.com refused to change anything at exact day of pick up because the don't have to (according to contract).
Once again thank you all for useful participation in discussion.
