Hello Friends,
Congratulations to Mr. Sharma & Mrs. Sharma in advance.
Try to book the deals by your self... including flight & itinerary including travel.
Book Phuket First and stay for 4 nights (Book villa with pool, which will give you kitchen also, Oxygen Villa @ Naiharn beach is a good choice though it will be a little far from Phuket Noisy area and hustle bustle)
Do the travel by Airasia from Phuket to Bkk.. Cheap flights.
Check out on 5th Day and reach to bkk, book an accommodation as per your choice (I would have preferred Sukhmvit Rd) stay a couple of days... visit a few temples in the day and go for shopping in the night to night market like Silom. Do the shopping come back and get a foot massage.
Leave from Bkk to India(your destination)
You have a typical short holiday that many tourists from India seem to prefer. You can book your own flights if you want.
Phuket has a better beach than Pattaya. But also so far away that you would have to fly there. (Bus ride is 12 hours one way!) Phuket has expensive local transportation and in general more expensive hotels than Bangkok and Pattaya.
Pattaya has a lousy beach but the 2 hour bus ride to get there is around 124 baht from Ekamai bus terminal in Bangkok. Or 134 baht by bus from Suvarnabhumi. But during day - early evening hours only! Taxi to Pattaya from Bangkok for 2 people around 1000 baht to 1400 baht. Hotels in Pattaya are cheaper than Bangkok and local transportation is only 10 baht using baht buses.
Some Indian tourists fly into Don Muang during the middle of the night to save money. But there is no cheap bus rides after midnight. Taxi only. Maybe consider flying into Suvarnabhumi where you have the Bus 389 option for direct to Pattaya or even Bell Travel if before 8 pm. If you want you can use the cheap Airport Rail Link to Pratunam area (City Line) for 45 baht if before midnight. Walk from Ratchaprorop Rail Link to Pratunam hotels or continue on to Phaya Thai for connection to the Skytrain. Use cheap Skytrain service for Siam area and Sukhumvit Road area hotels. Sukhumvit is popular for budget hotels (and luxury too) plus Skytrain stop, nightlife, good restaurants, etc.
Pattaya vs Phuket. If you actually intend to swim at the beach - vs a hotel pool - Phuket is the better choice. Tourists usually just look at the water at Pattaya Beach. They do sunbathe, shop at malls and from street vendors and sample nightlife. But for beach type swimming they take the ferry to Koh Larn Island or go to Jomtien Beach nearby. Or they just use a hotel pool!
Spend the final night in Bangkok for shopping, etc. I think you get better deals shopping in Bangkok. Some tourists use the Skytrain/Airport Rail Link to get back to the airport too. But only to Suvarnabhumi! For Don Muang taxi only.
I see Indian tourists in Pattaya all the time! Often in big groups. Pattaya is popular with single Indian guys too. Often you see large groups of them not far from some of the bigger massage shops. (Like the new Honey Massage on Soi Honey Inn.) For Pattaya stay on or near Pattaya Second Road (Sai Song) or Beach Road. This way you can walk to malls, nightlife, street vendors, restaurants, etc. Look over the map below. Some hotels are listed. But for any hotel help include your price range in Thai baht.
Your choice.
I think Albert in above post gave you excellent advice. I checked and you can fly either MAA-DMK or CUU-DMK. Spend your first 2 nights in BKK and then bus or taxi down to Pattaya. As stated there are loads of Indian visitors in Pat. Most of the tailor shops are run by Indians as well. You will have no trouble finding someone to chat with if you feel the need. Plenty of hotel choices in Pat. in all price ranges. Take a look at the 'accommodation' button, top of this page. Click Thailand, then choose BKK, then Pattaya. Top rated hotels listed first. Find hotels in your price range and read the reviews. Hop over to 'tripadvisor' for additional reviews. I would book ahead of time as Nov. is a busy month.
Phuket has better beaches no question. But it is far away from BKK and generally more expensive. Take a look at what is offered in your price range. You might find a place you like in Phuket. Factor in the airfare to/from BKK and then make a decision. Pattaya is probably more fun, cheaper and does have a good beach option on Koh Larn. I wrote a for those who might want to try the beach on KL.
Good luck with your planning.

Thanks a lot to all of you
Your inputs really did help. Yes the above suggestion of traveling by Air Aisa from Chennai is really very very good and economical.
I can take a domestic flight from Mumbai to Chennai (which will be economical as well)
I also checked the Air Asia fares from BKK-PHuket, which are also very less. So I am planning to visit 2 Days Bankok and 3 days Phuket.
Thanks a lot to all of you I am finally able to decide on something.
Sharma
Sharma,
Good that you have made a decision. Now see what you can find on hotel rooms. Good luck with your planning.
Phuket. Good choice. Keep in mind that some parts of Patong can be a little like Pattaya except for being smaller and more expensive!
