Hi guys,
Heya mate,
Im heading out a little earlier than yourself. I'll be arriving in perth on 16th August also on a WHV, im 23 years old and have no real plan, other than to make new friends travel the world find work and earn some dollar!
Im from Wales and will be heading out from heathrow! ive booked into bambu hostel which is central to the city and offers an hourly free bus service right into the city centre and you get free brekkie every morning!
whats your plans when you arrive?
Hiya mate,
Plans are very loose at the moment! Head to Perth (sort a bank account out etc), then eventually end up on the east coast, working if possible along the way. Definitely going to do the agriculture work to get the 2nd year there, I don't want to return to Manchester!
Just need to book a hostel before I leave the UK, cheers for the hostel advice, free breakfast is a plus!
Are you planning on travelling across Australia to the east coast?
Awesome mate sounds like you are similar to myself in your plans. I most certainly do NOT want to return to Wales so I'll be doing my utmost to get second year work which I hear is easily possible as long as you aren't too picky with what you can come across.
I am definitely planning on doing the East Coast, just I chose Perth purely because I have heard it was better and more reliable for finding work during the quieter parts of the year, i.e. when myself and you are arriving in their Winter season.
Also, my finances won;t be great, £4,000 in the bank when I get there so will be looking hard for work. What bout yourself?
Yeah sounds like we chose Perth for the same reasons, plus its on the west side so the flight from the UK is slightly shorter!
I'll be quitting my job next month so my funds will be around 6/7k, planning on selling my car to get a few extra pounds too.
I'll be looking for any type of work to keep me going!
Not sure when to do the harvest work...are you planning on doing it straight away or travel around for a while and then do the 3 months of agriculture work?
nice mate 6k should last you nicely!!
urm as my funds arent great i will be looking for work as soon as i can to be honest, and getting the initial 3 months out of the way will be good as we will have money saved then, a 2nd year visa confirmed and money in the bank to do the travelling aspect then!
are you going alone or with friends etc?
have u ever travelled before? This is the first time ive ever done any travelling! very nervous to say the least!
Hey guys,
just a heads up- Perth is so expensive its untrue. I think I heard on the TV that its was 3rd most expensive city in the world. I spent 600 quid there in 3 weeks and I was staying with family so no board costs. It just went on a few nights out eating out a few times and some tourists stuff. did not do a great deal there. The beaches to the north are amazing even in winter- its free and takes up a good chunk of your day. I'm currently in Northcliffe in south WA working as there were not many jobs in the city. They want you to work for the full 6 months. Anyway Perth is still an amazing city and worth the visit! Good luck with your travels!!
Oh and make sure you have a night out in Northbridge, Perth! its epic!
I'm going with a uni mate until we both find our feet then we'll probably go our separate ways as he's got family in Brisbane. We've both never been travelling so should be an awesome experience.
Slightly nervous, as it all could go wrong and I could be back in Manchester in a years time with no job or car, just thinking that was one long expensive holiday!
I'll give you a shout in Perth when we're both there for a beer!
Bucko- cheers for the heads up, "its expensive" are the first words when I tell anyone I'm going to Australia! What are you doing for work there?
North bridge is now on the list for a night out. Thanks!
Bucko thanks for the advice. I have heard the same that Perth is expensive, but getting a job should help out surely in this regard?
You said that its not easy getting a job as a backpacker in the city itself, Can you recommend an easier route to getting a job, i.e. certain websites, any job shops etc in the city that can help us out at all?
Ck- I am looking forward to having a few beers with you in september it will be great!
Hey guys. I'm planning to fly to Perth from Manchester around the 20th September. It's not quite as far away as I think it is you guys booking into a hostel?
