Canada!

I am really interested in travelling Canada fur 6 months to a year!! I have only jut started my research and am unsure on he best place to start!! Hoping some one could recommend a good place to start or a website that would be helpful!!

The west coast is by far my favorite bit of Canada. Vancouver Island (both Victoria and the old growth rainforest around Tofino), Vancouver itself, Kelowna and around, plus of course the numerous national parks in the Rocky Mountains (Banff, Jasper, Yoho, ...). You can travel as a tourist (just show up at the airport, no need to apply beforehand or anything) for 6 months. For more you could go on a WHV, but they're limited in number (see your other thread for details).

I like Quebec City and around, and Toronto/Montreal have their good sides, too, but my (very limited!) impression of the middle of the country is rather dismal. Calgary for instance is a boring dump.

Hey There,

Im in the same boat as you ... Looking to stay in Canada for 6 months in March 2014

Im 23 From London.

Thanks Jean

Hi jean,

Do you have a plan as to where you are starting and places you would like to go?

I am 25 from Devon.

Hey guys, when your here are you going to specifically spend your time traveling or are you going to stay in a few locations to work? I live in Toronto so if you would like any information about southern Ontario i'm more then happy to help out a fellow traveler and give ya what info i can. Feel free to send me a msg on here.

But as a quick idea of what I would do if i was visiting here. I would start on the East Coast, check out St. John's and Halifax, maybe PEI. Work your way inland to Quebec City and Montreal. From there hop to Ottawa and down to Toronto and Niagara Falls. Fly from Toronto to Calgary or Edmonton. I would def try to do some camping(in summer... unless u want to winter camp) in either Northern Ontario or Alberta/BC. But from Calgary/Edmonton, fly to Vancouver, then to Vancouver island. It'll be pretty expensive but you might be able to squeeze some deals in.

and Amy, if your looking for a party, id say check out Banff, Toronto or Montreal. Although you could always go to a small college/university town on a weekend. Those are always great as well.

again, feel free to msg me about some specifics and time of year you think you'll get here. What you'll want to see and do changes hugely depending on the season.

Of the many places I have been Canada is the best place to visit and to live in in my honest opinion. I would start off with Montreal as I had many great memories from there. Since I love Canada so much I have recommended alot of people to go there so if you need any help on visas or advice get in touch with me.

I live in Vancouver, Beautiful BC ! This is the Province you want to spend most of your time in. I lived in Toronto for four years before moving to Vancouver. Best decision !

Summer is by far the best time. You can go to the Okanagan ( Kelowna, Penticton etc.) and experience the vineyards. Vancouver itself is so beautiful with the Ocean and the mountains. YI must recommend the 1 1/2 hour drive to Whistler. It is the best scenery in the world.

I aslo recommend the Rocku Mountaineer train the goes between Vancouver and Banff, Very scenic !!

Vancouver island (Victoria, Parksville, Tofino etc.) is absolutely breathtaking. You can take a ferry across.

Other cities I would recommend on the East Coast would be Montreal, Ottawa and Halifax.

Here is a website that will give you more information ..-snip-

I did this last year! I found the best way to see so much was to buy a Via Rail pass.

Definitely check out Toronto and the east coast, it's so under valued! Check out Wasaga Beach if you have time. As for west coast, BC is massive and a truly awesome experience. Downtown Vancouver is where you will find the most backpackers, a lot of whom will have work visas.
Also make sure you check out Victoria, a lot of people tend to skip it but some really awesome little spots on Van Island. Heaps of hiking and outdoorsy activities.

If you travel to Canada, you can choose Toronto to start. In this city, you can to visit these points: the Canadian’s National Tower in Toronto (one of 7 wonders of the world), Ontario Museum (one of the biggest the art museum in the North America), Niagara waterfall, or Rideau Canal.
