23 stops in 12 - 18 months, too much?

Hello!!! i'm new and possibly a bit niave!! I want to do one massive round the world travel thing, as cheap as possible, is 23 stops too optomistic??

Everything is possible of course, it just takes money... ;-)

That said, a few thoughts...

1.) I'd drop the Great Lakes. They're spectacular geological entities... but it's just water. Michigan in particular is a dump too.

2.) Going to two entirely separate continents (South America and Africa) just to visit one location in each (Peru and Tunisia) seems like a lot of time/effort/money for relatively small pay-back.

3.) Why Mongolia?

4.) I think doing Nevada/Wyoming/Oregon then British Colombia then Alaska might be a bit repetitive. All very beautiful places to be sure, but those type of natural splendours have a lot in common.

Have fun with your research.

Cheers,
Terry

Vancouver is nowhere near the Rocky Mountains-time to buy a map.

Thanks Terry, that's really useful advice, i'll skim my locations down!!

and SamSalmon, I checked an online map for all of it, http://www.mapsofworld.com/canada/ it may not be easy to get to, or more distance then i thought but as said, this is just a general outline to be peaked, thanks for ur input though silly to think i didnt check any maps - they even state they're close by!!

It's about a 9-10 hour drive to get from Vancouver to the Canadian Rockies. Depending on your viewpoint, that makes it both "nowhere near" or close enough for practical purposes when you have a couple of weeks.

TravellingRay: If you'd want go for a RTW ticket on one of the major alliances (which is generally a good way to include a lot of flights without the price getting too out of hand), you have a couple of flaws in your itinerary and things to be aware of:
1) Can't start with stops on the same continent (so everything Europe would have to move to the end of the trip; or be something you'd do yourself outside of such a ticket (but then you'd have a bit of backtracking from Croatia back to the UK))
2) If you're going for a "miles" ticket, it doesn't make sense to fly to Japan before backtracking to India (on a "continents" ticket it'd be fine though)
3) Flying from New Zealand to South America is (last I checked) only feasible on a RTW ticket from the oneworld alliance - if you go with them, you should be able to include Tahiti and Easter Island for "free" (there's three routes there; one direct from Auckland to Santiago de Chile, one via Tahiti and Easter Island (both with oneworld), and finally one from Auckland to Buenos Aires with Aerolineas, which isn't associated with any alliance)

If you want to do most travel overland - or book flights as you go - then all the above doesn't apply, but do be aware that travel costs can rise very swiftly; especially on that New Zealand - South America connection.

hey,

good luck with your travels. one thing that i would suggest is to avoid backtracking if you are going for a RTW ticket. the cost goes up in such a case. I guess you can choose your travelling pattern in a line. Moreover, I think it is better to take the destinations that are on top of your list rather than just putting a tick against the destinations that you would be visiting. this would be one of the many RTW trips that you would be making, so best is to handpick the destinations of your choice. Also, book atleast 4-5 months before you set out for trip.

I think buying a rtw ticket from the alliances would cost you more. i checked the fares for my rtw trip from an agency called ticketsroundtheworld and they offered quite a good fare considering my stops/destinations.
