There's great cheap eats all over Oahu - plate lunch trucks put out a great lunch. I love the noodles - try the won ton saimin noodles. Although most of the Asians here are either Filipino Americans or Japanese Americans, the best/most popular food in the Islands is Chinese (in my opinion).
You won't find many bargains in Waikiki - for well heeled tourists!

Agree with Daawgon. To find the cheap food, get outside of Honolulu (now ranked as the most expensive city in the United States besides New York City). The cheapest entertainment is the beach or waterfalls, but biking can also be done cheaply and there are pineapple plantations where snacks can be had for a cheap price also. As Daawgon said, noodles are cheap and readily available. Mix that with some rice dishes and you can live cheaply.
