Cuzco, Peru to La Paz, Bolivia

Hi,
I am travelling from Cuzco to La Paz in late January. Any advice/recommendations and confirmation as to whether this is possible is very welcome!

This route is definitely feasible. The route that I did was:

Cuzco - Puno by bus. Overnight in Puno
From Puno, a 2-day trip to Titicaca Islands (floating Islands, Taquile, overnight in Amantani)
Puno-Copacabana by bus
Boat to Isla del Sol.
3 nights on Isla del Sol.
Boat to Copacabana - Bus to La Paz. I also stayed a night in Copacabana, but I can't remember if it was before or after Isla Del Sol.

Hi there,

There are no boats from Puno to Isla del Sol. Each is in a different country and apart from the odd expensive private cruise there are no passenger craft on the lake between Peru and Bolivia. Not to worry though, getting from Puno to Copacabana is easy as anything, as the previous poster said there are a couple of buses per day between the two, about 3-4 hours including the very straightforward border formalities. Money can be changed at the border for a decent rate.

Boats to Isla del Sol leave in the morning and afternoon. Many companies run this service but all leave at the same time from the main lake shorefront. Offices all over Copacabana sell tickets. On the island there are plenty of places to stay - if you climb up (quite steep steps!) from the dock on arrival there are some nice affordable cabana-type places with wonderful views of the Cordillera Real. Copacabana to La Paz is extremely easy - go for a more comfortable tourist bus rather than the cramped minivans! The descent into La Paz is spectacular.

On the Peruvian side, perhaps consider leaving Taquile/Amantani and instead going to the Capachica Peninsula, slightly to the north. It is unspoiled and gorgeous, and perfect for "turismo vivencial" which is where you can stay with local families who really benefit from your stay, receiving your money (very little, a few dollars a night with delicious meals included) directly.
Enjoy your trip!

Will
