Am looking for some advice from anybody who has recently done some extensive travel through Georgia and/or Armenia (within the last few years).
I speak some Russian and am wondering how the locals react to it being spoken. Also wondering how your travel experience was. Were locals friendly enough or standoffish, or just plain hostile towards tourists.

Although it has been 8 years ago and I don't speak Russian, I found the overall experience of both countries a very pleasant one. Quite a few people on the road speak English, but both countries are not really keen on Russians in general. On the other hand, if they know where you are from and you are just trying to communicate with them in Russian, it might be ok. And even then, the people are not hostile at all towards travellers for sure!
In fact, the friendly people are one of the highlights and you will for sure be invited to come and drink and eat. I experience that both in a small restaurant in Yerewan as well as on a Georigan wedding in the former Intourist Hotel in Gori (birth place of Stalin), and even in the northern town of Kazbegi at people's home and in a few small cities near the border with Turkey. Everywhere we had wine and shaslicks only to wake up with a hangover the next morning, but with all my stuff with me....really no worries over there!
