Travelling alone to Thailand ... Feb 2013

Hello everyone!!

You will love travelling alone if your friend decides not to go. You meet so many people, learn so much about yourself and can do everything you want to do, without having to worry about a whinging travel partner.

Don't let someone else stop your plans, you'll love it!

:-) Thailand is such an EASY place to travel..... Alone or in company, you will soon meet many other travellers and quickly get the hang of it....

Decide what you want to experience, ie: beaches, partys, temples, meditation, rural/nature............
Make a list of places & ideas
Make a Very Rough itinerary
The South is good in Feb-March, (Chiang Mai cold until April), Koh Phangan is great, cheap & full of travellers Dec-April, I am there now and can give you more info on what to do and where to stay if you are interested

The main tip I would offer would be
1) Learn to count 1 - 1000 in Thia (it's easy )

I am considering going to bangkok and phuket for a couple of weeks or under circumstances longer, going further away to malaysia (langkawi) and on to china.

happy to discuss the plan as i am mainly interested in sailing, historical or cultural locations in between.

cheers

Hey Michaela!
I too am leaving for Thailand at the start of Feb and also all on my own, but I will be traveling around SE Asia for 5-6 months. It's very scary, isn't it? But there's thousands of travellers that go around that area each year so as long as you're open to new people, you shall make friends. Do you have an intinerary yet? We might be in the same place the same time! I'm a 23 year old guy from England - if you need to talk to someone going through the same notions as yourself, lemmi know! :P

Hey

I don't have any words of advice, but try not to think and just do, i think thats best. I am also going to Thailand the start of feb on my own for the first time, after waiting too long for a friend or anyone to come with me. It is very scary but only because you haven't done it before, my thoughts are once im there i'll get over it.

The best advice I can give you is do as much research on the internet as you can ie travel guides, sites with accom. reviews, transport options, things to see and do. Access travel blogs.com & read where others have travelled etc. I believe the more knowledge you have before you travel the more confidence you will have.

In my younger years I backpacked Europe for 6 months. Before I travelled I did my research. I had an itinerary planned out, I knew which churches, museums, art galleries etc I wanted to visit, and I knew all the hostels/hotels where I wanted to stay. This was the first time I had travelled solo (age 32) & yes I was nervous as I knew no one on the other side of the world. But my research gave me confidence paricularly knowing that I would have a roof over my head each night which was my no. 1 priority.

I'm assuming your going to be flying in to Bangkok. I would head to Khao San Road area (backpacker central) for a few days to start with. You will probably meet others doing exactly what your doing and either travel with them or cross paths as you travel around.

Thailand is geared to tourism. Good luck with your travels.

Hello everyone!!

I am coming to Thailand at the start of
Feb and planning to be away for atleast 9 months... So want to go wherever I am 22yrs old & supposed to be coming travelling with another 22yr old girl mate, but she's now unsure if she wants to come. I am seriously considering coming on my own... But I am terrified!!!

Anyone else flying out in feb? Or can say anything to def convince me to come on my own!!!
