Need information on traveling to Montezuma, CR and Panama ”

angemac23 has indicated that this thread is about Costa Rica

There's only one airport to land in with international flights which is in San José, the capital. From the airport there are cabs or buses to the San José center where you can catch a bus for around 12-15 dollars to Montezuma which includes the ferry that you will have to take with the bus.

It's not that complicated, just go with the people or ask the driver but all is included in the ticket. The bus leaves from Coca Cola bus station in San José, all taxi drivers knows how to get there.

You could do a little more expensive way but faster which is to take a bus to Jacó and from there go with the water boat taxi (cost 30 dollars I think per person). This is all very easy to find on google since there are several great websites about Costa Rica and Montezuma and details. I do this travel all the time and it's easy. If you do take the bus, you will have to jump off in Cóbano but keep the ticket since you can use it for the Montezuma bus. Why you need to change bus is because in Cóbano you can either go to Montezuma or Santa Teresa and the main bus doesn't go further.

You should definitely visit the free waterfall they have with its pools to swim. There's also Isla Tortuga that is very nice. there's daily boat trips out there which usually includes food and drinks + snorkeling equipment. once on the island you can buy more things like horseback riding, jet ski and so on. I believe there are also scuba diving companies and that is a great experience.

Other than that, Montezuma is a perfect place for just relax and enjoy the moment at the beautiful beach and talk it easy.

Good food you can find in Organico (veggie organic food) and also Cocolores.

To get to panama is just a bus back to san josé and from there another bus to Panamá that will take around 4-5hours to the border (san josé-border) so I would recommend going Montezuma to san josé one day and san josé to panamá the next day. The whole way to panamá Im not sure and not sure if it can be done in one day, depends on where in Panama you're going.

places to stay in montezuma I recommend is luz en el cielo, backpacker style.. then there's a hotel in the center (its a very small town) that is great for more privacy and quite but I think almost all the places works fine (I've tried several but cant remember names). Its easy to find all the places on different costa rica sites or tripadvisor and check out whats good and not.

Ofc dont forget to surf and the organic food market every saturday.

marcusgrip....Thank you so much!! This is all very useful information for me and I appreciate the time you have taken to share it with me....it will be very helpful in my trip planning!

Hi, there is an international airport in the North of the Country in a town called Liberia. MUCH closer than going via San Jose, which will take hours...

If you do decide to go via San Jose, and depending on what time you get in, I would STRONGLY recommend that you stay somewhere overnight before attempting to go to Montezuma. If you do, I have some suggestions for good, reasonably priced, safe accommodation not far from the airport.

Traveling here is not quick. It can take hours to go 50 miles and most certainly you wont be able to see all the main sites in CR in a week, you would be traveling all day and every day, and thats no fun. If you are going to consider Panama for an additional week, you will either have to fly via Nature Air or Taca or, go back to San Jose and take Tica Bus which is close to the Sabana area in San Jose. The trip to Panama City takes about 14 hours from SJ and you have to clear through at the border which can also take some time... Always be ready for long travel times and long waits in either country!

If you need more help, feel free to drop a line!
