Hello,
Hi Danielle
we came to con dao islands on the 21st October for 35 nights and were still here almost 3 weeks on.
Its absolutely stunning with beautiful clear emerald seas and golden sands. There isnt much tourism here so not many of the locals speak any english but everybody is so friendly. There are a couple of western places on the island for western food such as Cafe Infiniti where we have breakfast every morning and can eat dinner there too.
The island is small with only 5000 inhabitants and you can get from one side of the island to another in 45 minutes on a moped - you will need a bike of some sort to get around which you cab hire from your hotel.
There is lots to do here; the snorkelling is fantastic, we have been scuba diving too with Dive Dive Dive the best diving school on the island, relaxing on various beaches, going trekking (lots of wild monkeys here), visiting the prisons, museum which helps tell the history of Con Dao etc.
Accommodation can be around 18 - 23 USD per night and a lot of the food is imported but there are lots of yummy street food places to eat in. Some friends that we met here stayed at Con Dao camping and really liked it, its on the beach but is pricey around 27USD per night, we have met another couple who are staying at An Han (budget hotel) which is nice and they love it so much theyre staying for 56 weeks and were staying at Thai Ha opposite the Dive Dive Dive shop for 18 USD per night.
Flights to Con Dao are around 80 USD each way but its worth it. The taxi ride from the airport will cost you 50,000 dong and is a beautiful drive.
Let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to meet up before the 11th Nov.
