travel in india: rajasthan

tatianaabreu has indicated that this thread is about Rajasthan

Pushkar is great and very relaxed. It is the kind of place you could spend 2 weeks. I spent about that time there. There are temples etc around but nothing exceedingly notable.

Jodhpur has the most impressive fort that never fell. But that is about all there is to do there.

Jaisalmer has a great fort, and you can stay in it! The sand dunes near there are great as are camel safaris, but you won't have time for that.

If you catch night trains or buses between these places it will be easy to do in a week. But you will probably want to book everything in advance to ensure trains aren't sold out. I think to book the trains online you will need to have an Indian phone number, but have a look on line and see what happens. You probably don't even need to stay a night in Agra if you're only going there to see the Taj like 98% of the other tourists.

I liked Udaipur, but there wasn't much to see and I skipped Jaipur.

Agra- Pushkar- Jaisalmer- Mumbai would be my preference. Look up info and photos of both the forts to see if one suits you better. It is nice sleeping in a real fort!! I could relax more in Jaisalmer, but it was a lot further away!!

Good luck!

Thanks Yahn! !

I will check the train distances and timetables to see if i can do the itinerary you suggested to me! I read and watched pictures before about those places in Rajasthan, and Jaisalmer looked more like my kind of place than Jodhpur but seems so distant in the map that i thought it would be best to go for Jodhpur instead.. but i'll see!

Agra - Pushkar - Jodhpur or Jaisalmer - Mumbai in a week is not possible, I think two weeks would be more great

Thanks for your suggestion, JulianWagner23.
I wish i had more time to explore those places but unfortunately i have only one week!
I checked the train and according to the indian railway website the time of travelling between
Delhi & Agra = 3h
Agra & Ajmer(Pushkar) = 7h
Ajmer(Pushkar) & Jodhpur = 5h
Jodhpur & Mumbai = 17h

So after some research i thought of letting Jaisalmer out of this route, because the main reason to go there was to be in the Thar Desert and maybe do a camel safari. But i saw this can also be done in Pushkar. My choice for Jodhpur is not only because of it being the most appealing city for me (less crowded than Udaipur or Jaipur and still a real taste of real rajasthani lifestyle and some historical landmark) but also because of the possibility of visiting nearby tribal villages.

I would say something like this seems possible to me (especially if booking trains in advance)
Agra 24
Pushkar 25, 26
Jodhpur 27, 28, 29
Jodhpur to Mumbai 30

What do you think?

Agra - Pushkar - Jodhpur or Jaisalmer - Mumbai in a week is possible
Agra 23,24
Puhskar 25,26
Jodhpur 27,28
Mumbai 29,30

You have chosen the most beautiful places in India to explore, but it is not possible to explore all these places in a week only. It would take more than a week and yes, you can skip Jaipur and Udaipur. Happy travels.
