Hey,
It's always useful to bring many things you can layer over each other to deal with changing weather, though it'll get pretty warm pretty soon, after which you'll wish you could do without even that last layer. Don't sweat the question of what to bring too much - if you find you're really missing something essential, you can always buy it there. (Loads of good shopping in Melbourne.)
Definitely don't pack more clothes than you'd go through in about a week or so; lightweight is the way to go. Oh, and don't bring your favorite clothes; after a year on the road of being worn nearly non-stop, they'll be in tatters.
