how do you pros travel so light with a carry on ? (airlines)

hi guys

I wash and wear when on holiday so travel with very little. Most things you might need, you can buy in Thailand: Clothes, shoes, just about everything.

Of course you'll have to dump the extras if you come home with 7kgs too.

I cannot guarantee it but most airlines are worried about size when it comes to carry ons and not particularly bothered about weight.

Combine your electricals into one device and compact worldwide charger. For me a Samsung galaxy note is phone, camera, music player, travel notes and internet.

Scale back on the toiletries kit to essentials.

Forget fashion concerns, scale back clothing to an outfit and spares but figure on regular overnight rinsing. The outfit is layers - a tee shirt, a shirt, a fleece, a light waterproof jacket, works from tropical to snowy Moscow.

Particularly ditch spare footwear - for me it's a pair of light trainer-boots and in the pack just a pair of plimsolls.

cheers for the answers guys

my mate said just wear all the cloths you want to take on then as soon as you get past security go in the toilet and put it into your carry on lol. i just don't want to have to check it in, ill have a bagging allowance of 23kg that i could use if i checked it in but im hoping they will turn a blind eye if im a few kg over :/ its literally 50/50 :/

thanks

Where are getting your 7 kg allowance from?

KLM has a fairly generous 12 kg (26 lbs.) weight for carry-on, plus another small item like a purse, laptop bag, etc.

That's way more than enough for an extended trip to any warm country, especially to SE Asia.

Terry

woops i meant eva air my bad

thanks

I don't think I have ever had my hand luggage weighed, so I reckon you would have quite a bit of leeway over the limit that they state.

hi bex76

is that as well as your checked in luggage or just carry on ? what airlines where they ?

I think it's impossible to plan on not having your luggage weighed. Enforcement of the regulations vary wildly between airlines, trying to predict one way or the other is a waste of time.

If I was you I'd show up with your Porter 46 ready as carry-on and if you're unlucky and EVA flags it a checked luggage then pop out your daypack and fill it with essentials and check your Porter knowing that there's nothing in it of value.

Good luck.

Cheers,
Terry

I've only seen budget carriers weigh carry on, to dissuade people from going for bulky bags. Air Asia, Wizz Air. Perhaps Ryanair or Easyjet. Never with full service operators like Eva or Qatar etc.
