This sounds amazing! You have the right idea, travel while you are young and single, see the world experience life to its fullest. Later on when you settle down and get married and have kids its not so easy to pack up and get going again!
Travelling by yourself is daunting but can be amazing as well as you will be more open to opportunities that if you were with someone else you may not do. Also the travelling community is really friendly and you'll make friends to hook up with all the time.
BTW when we travel we use this -snip- to get the best deals- so far we have saved a ton of money with them. Check it out you may find something cool!

You will be in Fiji in their rainy season, it will be hot and wet...
I am in NZ and you will be here at the best time for weather, there are plenty of hop on hop off backpacker type bus tours to choose from, a month could be a little tight, there is more variety of scenery and things to do here than there is in Australia. But try to include 90 mile beach, Bay of Islands, Auckland, Rotorua, Taupo, Wellington (Te Papa museum), Kaikora (whale watching), Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown.
Australia is having a bit of an economic recession at the moment but Melbourne is your best bet for a job over there... Try to get up to the Gold Coast (Brisbane) and also to Tasmania
