I'm from Australia, I want to go to whistler, BC in November is anyone else doing the same or have they? How is it travelling alone?
Whistler is soooo much fun. Lots of travelers from other countries, other people looking for new experiences (and to party). Are you going to stay the winter and work, or just visit by yourself?
If you're looking for work, start in the next couple of months and set up a job beforehand. They have a huge winter employment market, you can probably find one no problem
Oh, and if you're into that kind of place, you should also look up the town of Banff, Alberta - I lived there last winter, just moved there by myself looking for something new and ended up meeting some of the most interesting people. Same idea for a ski town but really pretty! Lots to do in the area.
Hi!
Ah that makes me exited. Yeah I signed up with The Global Work & Travel Co. I'm just nervous I guess I don't want to get over there and be to scared to do anything. What sort of job did you get, is it easy with transport and do you get time to explore a bit while making enough money?
I want to get out a bit and meet people, I don't want to party all the time I'm more interested in visiting as many places as I can and doing as much as possible, I did look at Banff, do you think that would be a better option for what I want? Thanks
Desrey, there's NO need to be so nervous.
Remember that you're going to a country that speaks the very same language, watches mostly the same movies, listens to mostly the same music, eats mostly the same food, wears mostly the same clothes, etc. Both Whistler and Banff are FILLED with Australians working in the tourist industry. Without Australian lift operators and bartenders all our ski hills would shut down! LOL
In other words Canada is not an exotic or intimidating or difficult destination in the slightest. In fact, after New Zealand it's arguably the easiest destination on the planet for you in terms of almost zero culture shock.
Bottom line: Relax and have a gas.
Cheers,
Terry

You're not kidding! I read an article recently about the Australia Day celebrations on the ski fields and basically EVERYone knows when it is Australia Day because a) all the staff go missing and b) all the staff then run through the town in various states of... celebration
Never been to Whistler, but I have been to British Columbia and it is always loads of fun. Also I notice that according to my sources, Whistler is the largest ski resort in North America. So if skiing is your thing, you can spend weeks there and never ski all of it.
Hi there
I'm from the UK and I worked the 2012 - 13 Ski Season in the Roundhouse Lodge restaurant on Whistler mountain. I had a fantastic time and met lots of lovely people of various nationalities.
I was slightly nervous about rocking up to Whistler without a job or place to stay sorted, so I went through the Working Holiday Club, who sorted my staff accommodation for me. On the other hand, I met / worked with several people who were 'winging it' a bit more.
You'll have an amazing time in Whistler! I'm currently considering getting my second (and last, unfortunately) working holiday visa and heading out there without anything lined up. Now that I know what I'm doing slightly more, I feel quite comfortable about it.
Take care.
Andrew
