Working in Europe?

Hi all =)

I am not trying to dissuade you from going to Greece but I just read this on the BBC.

..."The jobless rate in Greece reached a record high of 28% in November, according to newly released government figures.

The rate increased from 27.7% in the previous month. For those under the age of 25, unemployment hit 61.4%."...

You might want to investigate places where the competition is not so great.

Steve

thanks steve for the advice.
i went last year and athens was like visiting a 3rd world country but the islands in peek season are full of tourist and I have a greek passport so I think ill be okay but if i can't find anything after 2 weeks my greek passport will let me work anywhere in the EU so i will go to London as I have family there.

When do you plan coming? It is sort of pot luck...

The best thing to do is go on the spot before season starts, say on March, and knock doors. Latter on, some people who arranged jobs might not like it or might not suit their employers or whatever, so there might be some vacancies around, if you are there on the right place on the right time.

I hope you are aware of the low payment and terrible conditions though?

@hasbeen in the summer seasons, it is not so hard to find a job on the Greek Islands. The tourism is the main industry in Greece and they always want extra hand. But the negative is the money and the fact of the jenjenmariie is not an EU citizen so she/he need VISA to work. I had many friends from Europe who came in Greece only for summer jobs.

@jenjenmariie for accommodation you may want to search on google for couchsurfing! It is a great community with people willing to host you for free.

Sounds good then as @jenjenmariie's profile shows she has Greek citizenship.

Steve

Re #5 Couch-surfing, originally a great idea, is now dying a slow death due to people high-jacking the system as you mainly suggest. It was not meant to be about the free accommodation at all...

It is actually pretty hard to find a place through couch-surfing if you haven't host some people and create some network and credibility within the system anyway... it's even harder on popular places, and of course impossible for a whole season...

I worked for 3 months on Ios 4 years ago. I turned up, knew no-one and had a job the next day. You certainly wont be able to retire on what you earn, but the experience is priceless.
