Weather is still variable in Thailand in September and even October and you could get some heavy rain with nice days. November onwards is better.

Thai people are usually easy going and most problems can be solved with a smile. As a tourist many of the Thais you will come into contact with will speak some English.
Don't think you can just walk into a fruit picker's job in Australia. Huge numbers of people visit the country each year thinking they can do that and don't get a job. It's hard work for not much money so some who think they can do a bit of fruit picking then party or go to the beach are frequently disappointed. You will of course need a work visa to work in Australia.
Do consider other jobs. There are a lot easier jobs than fruit picking. Pop into an employment agency there, or check out some online beforehand.
If you are not sure when you will return home, you might try for an open return date but don't turn up in the middle of the busy season in Australia and expect a flight home next day.
Book a flight to Australia with a stopover in Thailand. Maybe on the way back too. It's a long flight so many do break it up with a stop in Asia.
Check the Daily Mail for Saturday or Sunday and as well as some cheap flight companies in their travel section and consider a year insurance (not too much money) in case something unexpected happens.
As strange as it sounds, you are more likely to encounter something poisonous in Australia, particularly fruit picking or even in a garden, than you are in Thailand.
