I'm hoping to be out in Australia by November, got some family and friends out there so will stay with them for a bit, then head out to other places. I'm hoping to get the minimum $5000AUD (around £3500) but was just wondering what everyone else is taking/took?
It will depend on how long you are staying there, how much travelling you are doing, what kind of accommodation you want, which area you are staying in and what kind of lifestyle you want?
hostelbookers has a fair selection of reasonably priced accommodation (including good hotels, etc). However the later you book them, the less budget accommodation there will be.
If you're doing a fair bit of travelling, pick up a Lonely Planet guide to Australia.
Honestly, just take as much as you can possibly get together before you go. If you reach $5000 and can save some more then by all means, keep saving!! It's not like you'll ever regret having more money, and Aussie does have some rather expensive cities. The more you take, the more experiences you'll be able to make the most of
