Anyone know how long it takes, more or less, to get a US holiday visa (applying from South Africa)? I heard it's quite the process. Was wondering what type of questions they ask in the interview?
According to the US state department website for Visa wait times (bet you didn't know there was such a thing)--
http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/temp/wait/wait_4788.html?post=Johannesburg&x=117&y=14
the current wait time to get an interview is 13 work days and the typical processing time is 1 day after the interview.
As far as question they ask--I'm only guessing here--but they want to know you aren't a terrorist and that you aren't planning to stay in the US. So the questions will be things like:
What is the purpose of your visit?
How long do you plan to stay?
Where are you currently employed?
For how long?
Where are you planning to stay while in the US?
Do you have a return ticket to South Africa?
Do you have any relatives in the US?
Do you have a family traveling with you or are you traveling alone?
Have you ever been arrested or convicted of any offense either in South Africa or while traveling to another country?
Do you have a person we should get ahold of in case of an emergency while you are traveling?
Any special events you plan to attend while in the US?
Stuff like that.
Enjoy your trip.
Thanks so much for your reply, really appreciate it!
I had no idea there was such a thing no, but what a great website, thanks again!
