Colombo isn't an island and certainly isn't the most popular place in Sri Lanka! I'd recommend missing it out altogether which is what most travellers do.

What's your budget like? I was lucky to have a night at the Cinnamon Grand and it would be perfect for you but it did cost me AUD 180 (incl breakfast).
