Scheduled to Fly out next week from India - 1st June'12.
Still undecided over Car Hire or Bus.
I agree that toll roads would be heavier on the costs. (tried the viamichelin site as suggested).
Obvious by now that we have a bious towards opting for a car. 2 definite reasons for that -
1. The timings and schedules would be more in our hands.
2. The relative costs (including those of reaching the bus station) are almost the same.
Actually I would not mind spending a little bit more if I knew of options to take country / toll free roads.
This would allow us to take advantage of our flexibility and drive along some 'Scenic' roads.
Could any one suggest a moderately drivable route.
To reiterate our itinerary, we start from Madrid on 6th June'12 for Segovia - Avila and reach Salamanca at night.
On 8th June'12 - Salamanca to Toledo. (Early Start - need to reach Toledo by 3/4pm.)
9th June'12 - Toledo to Cordoba (need to reach Cordoba by 5pm - do not know when to start)
10th June'12 - Cordoba to Granada (to reach Granada by 2 pm - do not know when to start).

Car hire is good if you don't get stuck with a high one way charge, picking it up at one point and dropping it off at another.
However parking can be very difficult in big cities and even small towns. They do tow cars illegally parked so use a meter or a parking garage.
If you are not in the car, do not leave anything valuable in it. Beware of helpful strangers who tell you you have a flat tyre or barely bump your car and while you are checking, steal from your car.
Consider car insurance. Driving is pretty bad in Spain.
