Is there such a thing? I live in Israel and i am going backpacking in South America, however, my brother is getting married in Chicago, Illinois in mid Aug. So my plan is to fly south only right after the wedding. Meanwhile, i was thinking to maybe do a week or two of hiking trails in the area. I wont have a car so i will be dependent on public transportation. So is there such a thing? What would you recommend?

head straight for the west. the canyons in utah or amazing. western wyoming and montana, and central idaho as well as the entire west coast starting in washington down the coast to california.
a week or two isn't a lot of time. so you may have to pick an area and roll with it. considering it's august, the coast will be nice. fly to seattle and head south.
that's what i would do if i had little time and wanted to hike in america.
There's also Montana but you're going to be very limited with transportation and airports. The west coast might be better. If you do go west coast I'd probably stay more north there's nothing south unless you head to Arizona. There's the Grand Canyon too which would be a lot of fun but pretty hot for back packing

Thanks a lot. Ill check out the sites you recommended. I prefer not to spend to much money on flight so i do prefer hiking around Chicago or at least around Illinois. Flying to the west cost then back to Chicago the to Lima-Peru will come out very expensive.
Any Ideas for a specific good hiking trail that will take me about a week or two while i can camp on the way?
Agree with going out West. SOOO many great national parks and trails. Utah is known for Zion's National Park (with Angel's Landing and the Narrows), Arches National Park in Moab, UT (tons of naturally made arches), and Bryce's National Park.
