You'd do better to do an out and back to Jaisalmer from Delhi, then continue your trip north to Leh. From Delhi I think there is a train, certainly a bus. If you really want to be adventurous head to the area of Karol Barge in Delhi, (close to the backpacker area of Paharganj) this is the motorcycle mecca of Delhi and you can rent a Royal Enfield for a few days of your trip. Leave your main bags at your guest house in Delhi and just take the essentials for a few days in Rajasthan.

I must say thats a good plan you made.
If you are hearding to sea (i assume its Goa) than from there head to Jaisalmar by any mode of transport you chose.

I would say one thing about McLeodGanj, i loved the place when i was there and i am going back again just to enjoy the delicious food i found there and enjoy that ice covered hill tops (i was there in Winter). Please have food at Norling Restaurant there, and i am sure you will say thanks when you eat there. Check out video by food television on

From leh the best way to travel is by flight. i am giving you two options though.
1) Fly from Leh to Delhi stay over night and next morning bord the flight to Jodhpur from Delhi. on arrival drive to jaisalmer.
2) Fly to delhi and then take a overnight train to jaisalmer.
