Ao Nang, or Krabi Town?

Hello All

My memory is a bit fuzzy on it, but I think Ao Nang was just a 30 min scooter ride away from Krabi. Krabi is more a base to get to other places, there is no beach at Krabi. If you can rent a scooter its great, you can then get to the Tiger Temple, the hot springs and as I said up to Ao Nang. You could even split up your time with a bit of a stay at Ao Nang, which is a nice place with nice beach although a bit more touristy and smaller than Krabi. From Ao Nang you can take the long tail boats to the awesome, but also quite touristy Railay beach. You might even want to consider a night or two here. Krabi has a great food market along the river. It's definitely worth going, but you need to be able to to move around the area. I met another guy that he and his girlfriend rented a taxi for a few days. Not as cheap as a scooter, but not outrageous and probably more comfort, although less fun imo. I have pictures of the area

I really don't think Krabi Town would be a dream vacation, especially for honeymoon. It's just a town with nothing exciting to see. It's a good base for onward travels, but not where you want to spend your time. If you've never been to the west coast of Thailand before, then Ao Nang is a good place to start, and you can take day trips from there to lots of great beaches. I think for a real vacation, you would be better off heading out to Phi Phi, which is crowded, but is still a stunning place to see. Or, if you want a very relaxing Island, I'm a big fan of Lanta. It's not as beautiful as most of the Islands in the area, but it's a very laid back place and a perfect vacation spot.

Aaron,
I have to agree with the posts above. Krabi town is where you catch the bus or plane. Or spend a day before catching a ferry to another island. It is not my idea of a honeymoon location. I would vote for Ao Nang as well. But, you might want to look at several beaches just a short boat ride away. is postcard pretty, but perhaps too popular for a honeymoon. Day trip it and then decide. Same with Day trip it and decide if you might want to spend additional time there. Good luck with your planning.

There are so many beautiful places in Thailand, but for a honeymoon, I would choose a more quiet place where you can really enjoy each others company.

The island of Ko Kradan is such a place, situated about 150 km south of Krabi. It is a small island which is incredibly beautiful and peaceful. In the afternoon there will be some boats with tourists that come to snorkel, but in the evening you have the island almost to yourself.

On the island there are 5 smaller resorts in different classes, ranging from primitive to luxury. There are also a few nice restaurants. The island has a really nice beach and is surrounded by a beautiful coral reef.

But this is just my suggestion for a nice honeymoon

Probably all your options have been mentioned above. My two visits I stayed at Ao Nang because of the beach, seafood restaurants, shops, cheap accom., transport options and I was travelling with friends.

If I were on my honeymoon I would consider 5 nights at either Railay beach area, Ko Phi Phi, Koh Poda or Koh Lanta and the last 2 nights in Ao Nang. Koh Phi Phi will have more tourists and nightlife than the other 3 options.

Plenty of info on different sites to work out what will best suit your needs.

Thank you so much for replying everyone.

You all pretty much confirmed my own thoughts. I have been to Thailand twice now and have only ventured the Gulf (Samui, Tao, Phangan) and also Chiang Mai. Not counting Bangkok. I really want to visit the west coast and thought The Krabi area would be a good place. Thank you all once again for all your suggestions. I do not let them go to waist and they are much appreciate it. Vegasmike I am calling you out sir, you have posted on my threads before and your advice is always sound.

Thank you

For decades, I thought of Phuket as Krabi. Apparently, the images we see in pop culture is from the Phi Phi islands. And so I finally decided to go to Krabi, only to realize it is actually AONANG, the beach that people should be talking about and not Krabi, which is a town just like Phuket town. I expected Krabi to be impressive, but apparently, it is town with a beach, miles away and two expensive rides from the bus station. The only saving grace of AONANG, which impressed me are the MONKEYS from the monkey trail, that was fantastic! and also the beaches are embellished with a galaxy of shells... So in all fairness, Krabi is worth visiting, even if it was made to be just a spring board to the Phi Phi islands. The problem with Krabi is that it is too expensive, given the thousands of other beaches in Asia. INTERNET is 40-50 Baht and Mc.donalds is over priced, Shame.

Internet and McDonalds are two things I steer clear of when visiting Thailand. Each to their own.

Krabi Town is a good base for doing day trips to cool spots in that area, but I wouldn't recommend it for a honeymoon. And if you want a beach location then I would probably recommend Railay Beach over Ao Nang.

But both of them might still be a bit too busy for a honeymoon, so you might be better off heading off to one of the more remote islands in that area.
