Hey guys, I just wanted to throw something out there for comments. I am taking a huge road trip in a few weeks and will be traveling for 8 weeks. I plan on going from NY all the way to Seattle back down across and back up the east coast, total of 10,000 miles. I have a list of destinations I want to hit and since I am a big poker player I plan on hitting a number of casino's. I will be spending most nights in my car with a mix of rooms along the way but I must say this is one of my main concerns. So I was hoping to get some travel tips, destinations and thoughts on sleeping in your own vehicle. I have added two blog entries with some more details but just wanted to use this to introduce myself to the forums and Giddy Up!

Sounds like an awesome trip You might be interested in the - they and have been sleeping on that.
Lots of photos and ideas on there, probably hitting many of the same places you would want to.
Thanks for the tip, just spent sometime taking a look at their posts. They have a bit more room in the car, i have a 4 door 2010 focus but I'm hoping the air mattress does the trick.
Welcome to Travellerspoint! Sounds like a fun trip what time of year will you be travelling? If you are staying in hotels, even for a few nights during your 8-week trip I would look at hotel deals and what they are offering. That could save you some money. I know Best Western always has deals about staying ___ amount of nights or different trips get ____. Other hotels sometimes have different offers as well.
I'm still trying to figure out the sleeping arrangements but I'd say no more than two nights a week in motel/hotels. I wish I had a bigger car but I like my ford focus!
If you want to avoid the cost of hotels, you could try couch surfing. Or camping at national or state parks. Sounds like a fun trip!
Never been much of a camper but perhaps when I get further out west I may want to grab a tent. I agree its not that feasible to stay in hotels so many nights but after 3 nights of brainstorming my ford focus RV I think we are almost there!! I will probably throw up a post at the end of the week just on that subject. Hmmm couch surfing is interesting I have to admit that but I am a bit weeearry. Okay I'm going to finish my green tea and watch the rest of the hockey game.
