Is it worth doing a SE Asia trip during Monsoon?

Hi,

November to April is best when it's cold back home. I'm out there in December.

In monsoon you can have maybe a few hours very heavy rain then it's OK or you can have heavy rain day after day and sometimes flooding.

No hurry to go is there?

As Cyberia says, the rain is not constant at all. SE Asia is all about the experience - you will never find perfection in weather there. First of all, the area is much larger than you think, with many different weather patterns. It can be raining cats and dogs in Bangkok and clear as a bell in Chiang Mai. Actually, the first time I experienced real tropical rain, in Saigon, it was thrilling - just the intensity/power of the rain and thunder really made that stay in Saigon, for me. If it gets too bad in the area you're in at the moment, just pick up your pack and go where it looks better (with the internet and , it's far less of a crap shoot!)

This year, we seem to have already started the rainy season. Maybe,by August, we will be heading out of it.

Although last year was unusual, Thailand was cut in half by the floods. This year, predictions are for more flooding, although not to last year's extend.

In any case, the rains can turn a simple vacation into a real adventure! I enjoy them.

I usually visit SEA in June/July the rainy season. Why? 3 reasons - one, I escape the Aussie winter, two, ther are less tourists and three, accommodation is cheaper and no need to prebook.

Rain is a hit and miss deal. One time when I arrived in Sihanoukville (Cambodia) the rain came and was fairly constant for 3 days so I decided to take off down along the coast and visit Kampot and Kep for 5 nights. When I returned to S'ville the weather had cleared and I enjoyed sunshine again.

There are pros and cons to travelling at any time of the year. You just need to research the pros and cons and make up your own mind.

The best time to visit SE Asian countries is during summer. I visited the Philippines this summer and I had so much fun in Pagudpud. The beach was beautiful. It is really a paradise. Plus the people there are very accommodating especially when we dont know what food to order. They were suggesting us what food to eat.

It's been really dry recently.

I generally like wet season because of the ways everything is overgrown in the countryside...

I visited the Philippines last summer and I had so much fun in Cam Sur. I tried the wakeboarding there. It was scary and fun! The person who assisted us made us feel relaxed while waiting for our turn. If you are into sports, you might want to try it.

I went there too last summer. Plus I went to Sorsogon since I wanted to see the whales. We were so lucky that we had a chance to see the whale. The guy who were with us was friendly. He was joking the entire time we were waiting for the whale to come out. We were all laughing out loud.
