meganjohnston21 has indicated that this thread is about Perth

If you plan on doing any work in Australia, you will need a work visa rather than just a tourist visa.

Australia is a BIG place as in four hours flight from Perth to Sydney.

Where are you going to? Sydney? Cairns? Perth? Brisbane? It will depend on what you want to do and see there.

You will probably find it cheaper to fly from England so maybe a Ryanair flight first from Dublin?

kayak is pretty good for fairly cheap flights. Check around and you may save quite a bit of money.

Changing the flight by a day or two can save money as can a non direct flight where you spend some hours in an airport on the way there and back.

Summer? I've been to Australia a number of times in the January-February period and had sun every day. A lot better than back home which had snow and ice. So you might leave later in the year.

Accommodation: Try hostelbookers. Despite the name they have lots of good hotels at reasonable prices.

well was thinking of starting off in Perth as i heard theres always work there and is not as dear as sydney and other places. Havent really thought of what i'd like to see, and tbh wouldnt really know what to go see. I am mainly goin out there to work. I am goin around this time next year, May 2013.

I am pretty scared at the thought of going to a new country just me and my boyfriend. Not knowin where 2 go or how to get settled. I have been looking on Gumtree australia and there is LOADS of people with houses looking for people to share with, and they are pretty cheap.

There are soooo many travellers from the UK/Ireland/Scotland etc in Aussie, you'll find like-minded people very quickly if you and your boyfriend begin your trip by staying in hostels. A big hostel is useful for making friends, finding work contacts, making possible connections for housemates or future travel buddies etc etc. I've never made it to Perth myself, but have travelled a lot of the east coast of Aussie from Melbourne up as far as Noosa/Fraser Island area, and have also been to Adelaide, so if you'd like advice on any of these places PM me, I can certainly help you out

You will be fine Megan! Plenty of people do it on their own, but you will be doing it with your boyfriend so don't worry! Once you are out there you will wonder why you were so worried, I know I did!.

I would say that Perth was the most expensive city I visited in Australia though, maybe marginally more expensive than Sydney. Wages will reflect that though so you will be fine.

Just look forward to enjoying the time of your life!
