Route 66 - best car options

hey guys, I'm planning on hitting route 66 early next year.
Dies anyone know if it is better to rent a car from Vegas and drop it off in Chicago or is it best to buy a car at one end and sell it at the other.....
Im struggling here but Im hoping I have enough time to research and sort it out.

Lea,
I would not buy a vehicle unless you are going to be driving in the US for at least 6 weeks. Any less than that, rent. Vegas has competitive rates on rentals and I would see what is being quoted by the various companies. I have some Route 66 photos in my photo gallery. Here is the best I have found for driving 66.

Good luck with your planning.

Yeah selling would be a hassle. You will pay a big drop off charge but it will be worth it. Have you tried the discount car rental places like "Rent a Wreck" or whatever? Don't let the name fool you, I"m pretty sure their cars are reliable.

If you don't have PR status it would be extremely difficult for your to purchase a car and get liability insurance plus to register it. Selling it is another story altogether. However, if you go by -snip- it can be done. He -snip-.

Renting is more costly but you will probably get less hassle from choosing this option plus if there were problems with your rental car I think it would be easier to get it rectified, plus you will more likely be driving a 'newer' car.

In terms of where to rent from. I believe Chicago has higher taxes? From memory, renting from a non airport location would be cheaper.

Hope that helps and good luck with your research!

thanks for the advice guys
