International Transfers at Suvarnabhumi Airport

Can anyone advise how I transfer from a Thai Airways flight arriving at Suvarnabhumi from London to an AirAsia flight to Phnom Penh leaving the same day as I arrive from London. Are there transfer facilities without having to pass through immigration?

I'm pretty sure you do have to go through immigration and reclaim your bags. At least I did when the airport had recently opened. Rechecking them wasn't hard though.

DocNY is correct. Thai airways cannot transfer your luggage onto an Air Asia flight - they can only do this for code share agreement airlines which Air Asia isn't one of.

So you get off the Thai airways plane and then you will have to go through Immigration, collect your luggage, and then head to the check-in desks to check in for your Phnom Penh flight. You will then have to go through all the Immigration and security procedure all over again to get back through to the gate area.

Remember to give yourself enough time to clear Immigration, collect luggage and re-check in. Last time we arrived in Bangkok airport was mid-December at midnight and it took us close to 45 minutes to get through Immigration! Check-in desks for Air Asia close 1 hour (or 45 minutes, I'm not quite sure!) before departure and they are very strict about this. Also remember the difference in luggage allowance between the two airlines when you book the Air Asia flight as they are VERY strict with overweight baggage and charges!
