Hey!

Hi, have an Asian tour coming up in March and will be getting to Darwin on the 27th May, cant wait to get there an meet loads of people, any tips of the best places to stay in Darwin, looking at Hostels etc, an best places to party and sights to see!

I stayed in and it was a pretty decent place. Facilities are good: there is a pool and social area and they can organise tours - I'd recommend going to Kakadu and Litchfield National parks. There's not really much to see in Darwin itself.

Four months into my travels, been to India, Hong Kong, Thailand, Bali, In Darwin atm where Ive been for almost 7 weeks, got my self a job an earning good money, Travelling back to Bali on the 6th of September then Philippines on the 5th of October, Thailand again in November, Bali for xmas then Cairns in Jan where I have some farming lined up to allow me to aquire my second year working Visa. Its going quick but its great, thought id miss home a bit but not at all!

A popular place to stay if you like a bit of luxury is Moon shadow Villas which are on the fringe of the CBD. It's an easy walk down the hill to the Mindil Beach Sunset markets. If hiring a car it's worth noting that most car rental companies have a maximum 100km per day limit with extra kms charged at approx. 0.25c. A round trip to Kakadu is over 600kms so charges could quickly add up. If you only have 3 days/2 nights I would just stay in Darwin. Lords Kakadu Adventure Safari's have a one day tour of Kakadu from Darwin or Jabiru.
The Crowne Plaza and the Mantra on the Esplanade (formerly Saville Park Suites) both are central to restaurants in Mitchell St which is the main drag in Darwin CBD. There is also the Mantra Pandanas which is a newer high rise property in Knuckey St & although not on the Esplanade would still offer views of Darwin Harbour from high floors.
