I'm planning a day trip from Munich to Neuschwanstein Castle. I found an organized tour for $50 that I could just plan for, but I think I would rather plan it on my own so that I don't have a time commitment (so that I could explore more of the town/area instead of just going for the castle and returning back to Munich). Also, I'll have three days in Munich and plan to go on the second day, so planning it on my own will be playing it safe, so that if it is rainy I can do museums, etc. on Day 2 and Neuschwanstein on Day 3, since there will be no commitment to a guided tour.
