Leona
hey Leona
Nice to hear from u:-) im kinda relieved to hear that other people are going alone tho. I only decided to go at the weekend. so applied for the working holiday visa and it was straightaway approved
ya really nerve wrecking, everyone says that u meet loads over there so its just the initial part i suppose of going alone, still scary! I havent booked flights yet but hoping to leave mid may, before the colleges and universities are finished, flights are bit cheaper and probably better chance of getting jobs but then again, who knows :-) i will be flying from shannon, probably not going to stop off in asia on the way over. i think i would have more courage to do thailand or those places on my way home, tats why im hoping anyway:-)
Yeah im the same!! I wanna see thailand and maybe NZ but ill work my way around, hopefully finding some1 to go with. Where do you live? Theres so many jobs in Perth at the moment and the weather is about 20-25 in June which is perfect for arriving from here!! Think it will take a few weeks to get used to it, whats made you decide to up and go??
P.S everybody here thinks im a bit nutz going alone!!!
Lovely to hear from another Irish Girl thou!!
Leona
Hi Leona & Fi,
Its great to see yer comments, Im planning to head off mid may as well on my own which im abit nervous about but if i dont do it now i never will. Im from ireland 2 I decided in the last couple of weeks so just trying to sort things out now. Im thinking ill fly into melbourne or syndey and then do some travelling for a few months up along the coast. Its meant to be great for meeting other backpackers along the way
Hoping to work as i go along, with the floods and that its meant to be easy get clean up work as i plan to travel up that way, by brisbane etc etc!! That way can do some harvest work in case i want to apply for a 2nd year visa!!
Then ill come back to either syndey or melbourne and settle and try get a job!
Thats kinda my plan anyway...mad to see thailand too but so worried about doing that on my own so may leave it for now but u never know!!
Where u planning on goin in oz fi????
ya i was thinkin perth too. seemingly hard to get work in Sydney so thats why i was thinking perth or maybe Melbourne. but dont really have a clue, have been reading other posts and people have all these plans about going to different places so i feel like i should have a plan but dont yet! i was reading a post in some other forum from an irish girl in perth who is lonely, cos everyone is in groups and its hard to meet people cos as a girl she cant go into pubs on her own but i know i shouldnt let tat put me off !!
yep, everyone thinks i nuts too for going alone but none of friends wud go. they either have gone already or else, no interest in going. just wanna head away and do it cos i never have before and with the way things are here, i might as well :-)
weather sounds perfect in perth, not too hot and hopefully away from the rain!!
I wouldnt worry about having a plan (usually im sooo organised) but think im going to wing alot of it. Just from reading other forums they say thats the best thing you can do. My main decision is where ill fly into. Im constantly changing my mind about weather to fly into cairns and work my way down to melbourne or vice versa!
Have a place booked for the first week you arrive anyway, thats the main thing and then at least you can decide where to go to from there!! Theres agencies you can sign up to before you go out there for jobs as well!!
Do you plan to stay in perth long or more around?
Hey Girls
I think if you over read some stories you'd never go!! everybody has some horror story to tell of, But if you have your witts about you I think you'll be fine, I know a few that have gone travelling to Oz and never left Perth because its was so easy to meet new people and get a job. I wanna see all of Oz, but in reality ill need to work to pay for it so thats why Im headen to Perth 1st instead of the usual backpackers route, so much work, new jobs go up every hour!! xx
As for going to pubs alone, It all depends how confidant you are. Im planning to stay in hostels so theres always another person alone you can have a drink or chat with, remember it only takes 1 person, and your no longer alone!!
Leona
hey aoife
havent booked flights but looking around second week in may, one way is about 500 hundred so not a bad price. think its bit cheaper to go in may rather than leaving it til the summer. just got my visa at the weekend but havent made any plans. was thinking perth or melbourne as i hear Sydney is hard enough to find work in
but i do wanna get around to see as much as i can. and i suppose, if no work in one place, well i can always move in
ya mad to see thailand but if i am going on my own, i might leave it until the way home.
Leona, i like ur thoughts :-) just gotta go and not pay too much attention to the one or two stories, cos most people absolutely love it. and yep, ive heard perth is great for jobs.
i feel so much better than i not the only one thinking of doing this
once i decide on where to go first, i must look into booking a hostel cos thats prob the best way
Yeah Ive looked at a few with great reviews in Perth, gonna book 4 nights for when I arrive, im there on a Friday so book in for the weekend and play in by year after that!! My friend is alone in South East Asia at the mo at he said girls dont stay alone for long, they all chat in the common rooms in the hostel and seem to mix easier then men.
He's having the time of his life and the fact he can do it alone in Asia, just means I could do it in Oz. I'll defo wanna go to thailand but just after Ive gotten more confidant travelling alone!
His pic's of Phi Phi island are just outa this world
