Visa issue

My Thai Visa second entry runs out on the 29th March and my flight home is on 6th April. Is there anyway of getting an extension while in Thailand. Is a border run the only way? Also does anyone know what the fine is if i overstay and how much of an issue it will cause me at the airport.

If you are unlucky and get checked by the police and you are in overstay you could go to jail!

According to this link you will get a 10 day extension for 1900 baht.

It might cost the same to visit another country and when you return you get 15 days for free or if you fly in get 30 days if you are on the Visa Exemption list.

Good luck.

Albert gave you excellent advice. You will not be able to make a visa run cheaper than the 1,900 baht for a 10 day extension. Get yourself into an Immigration Office before your visa expires and pay for the extension. You do not want to be caught in an overstay situation.

Right great advice guys. I presume this is gonna meen going back to BKK/ Chang Mai well before 29th March to sort this. Can it be done from Chang Mai?

Just checked this out and it looks like Chang Mai is my best option. Visa run will be a pain in the arse and now doubt costly. Im not a big fan of Bangkok and i love Chang Mai so perfect. Lets hope this info is up to date!

Where are you at now? A visa run is costly if you are far away from an authorized entry point. If you are near Chiang Rai I think you can still be stamped out and back in at the border. This is good for 15 days. I have been on tours to the Golden Triangle/Chiang Rai out of Chiang Mai that stopped at the border for tourists to get stamped in.

Cheers for advice! Im in Ko Tao a the moment. Someone told me last night that it can be done from one of the islands? Rather than having to go all that way. Also Chang Rai is that near Laos border? Been to golden triangle before but cant see how you would organise that?

If you happen to be in Chiang Mai there are many tours leaving every day that go to Chiang Rai for the Golden Triangle and some villages. That is when the tour guide waits a bit for tourists getting their passports stamped. But I wouldn't go all the way from somewhere down south to Chiang Mai!

Some expats and tourists also go to Malaysia too. Hat Yai is the big city closest to Malaysia. From there you can take trains, vans and buses to Malaysia.

Nice one for the suggestions, i think Samui is my best option being on Koh Phangang at the moment so its nice and close, the hassle of a visa run is too much effort for me!

Cheers people
