Turkey has lots of history and has a lot of low priced tours. Check out some travel agents while there and even if you don't use them it will give you some ideas. If you want to do it yourself, a Lonely Planet guide to Turkey is a good investment.
In off season it can be very quiet and in high season very hot (some rooms with air-con but you often have to pay to use it). You'll generally find the pace of life in Turkey to be slow. It is a semi-muslim country.
