The four top English banks made £25 billion profit last year. They would charge you for breathing in their branches if they could get away with it. It'll cost you to send and receive money, but often a set fee so send as much as possible.
You will need the Australian IBAN number (International Banking). Get that wrong and they will make you regret it. For my bank in France it starts FR for France, 76 for region then five lots of four numbers and one lot of three numbers.
Do take money with you in case there is some mess up so you don't receive it for some time. I waited five weeks for something that should have been done that day.
