Firsrtly, this isn't a promo. Secondly, yes I do work in the backpacking travel industry in Australia. The purpose of this thread is to try and help travellers or potential travellers make decisions based on the recent floods in Queensland. The reason is that a lot of businesses in Queensland have had cancellations from overseas. This was largely due to travel warnings on govt websites that were just a little overcautious.
Thanks for the post. I have just got back from a short holiday in Brisbane. Although some areas of the city were evidently badly damaged, many businesses are now open again and reconstruction is well underway for others. I can't speak for the rest of the affected areas in Queensland but there is certainly no reason not to go to Brisbane; I was still able to do everything I had planned to and things are getting back to normal remarkably quickly.

If anyone wants to check online for current warnings (not only in QLD, but elsewhere in Australia too - as there are also floods in VIC & NSW) then the has details on current weather & warnings.
The BOM website also indicates if there is a fire ban in any particular area - even though the floods have got the attention in the news, bushfires in Australia can also be a risk at the moment!
I'm gonna travel by car from cairns to sydney begin of April till end of May. Should i be concerned about anything? Will the backpacking life be up and running again?
im planing on traveling to queensland within the next few weeks and im wondering if the avalability of work has or will be effected by the recent floods and pending cyclone

Queensland already has a skills shortage, which was made worse by the floods. I'm talking builders, electricians, etc. The essential trades required to rebuild things. There is and probably always be work available in agriculture in Queensland even though this has taken a hit recently.
Regarding the cyclone? I just don't know: the biggest storm North QLD has ever seen is about 8-hours away from hitting. When Cyclone Larry hit the same region in 2006 it wiped out the harvest industry, who are a major employer of travellers.
I would say if you're persistent and aer willing to try anything you will find work. I'll be asking around the industry in the next few days.

That's 3-months away so I would say yes, backpacking life will be up and running. Keep in mind QLD has been through this before. They're good at managing big problems. Most BP businesses are small, if they don't get up and running they don't make anything.
has any of the recent happenings stopped public transport such as greyhound buses along the east coast links?

To answer your question: yes, services into and out of the affected areas are halted until it's safe to continue. Greyhound services will be back to normal very quickly, Oz Experience will probably be much the same. The problem now is whether the rain causes road closures.
